In the Summer of 2008 I decided that my 6 hour a day commute from my home in Massachusetts to my job in Manhattan as a Technical designer at Brooks Brothers, was not how I planed to spend the rest of my working life. On my long commutes I had plenty of time to daydream and plan what I really wanted to do, and that was to return to my 1st love, fabric painting. I did not want to create stuff for the sake of creating stuff to sell, hence the foundation of my business are my recycled chairs, they are my passion and seeing them go from a sad and unwanted (some are found discarded on the side of the road) to the fabulous end products that they are, brings me so much joy and job satisfaction.
In the summer of 2009 I worked with graphic designer Brian Frodema, together we created my 1st collection of digital prints, my 1st sale was to Banana Republic for their Fall 2010 line. After the August 2009 PrintSource show, some of my hand painted and digital prints were chosen as Trends to follow for 2010 by Mudpie a leading UK trend forecasting company. Other clients include Chico's and Lifetime Brands. I am excited to see how my prints are going to be translated by the designers.
In January of 2010 I was invited to do a presentation at the Boston Design Center, to a group of influential designers. The designers were very excited to offer my hand painted upholstery as a alternate design service to their clients.I recently completed three pieces for a private client, who I am happy to say was very pleased with the end result.
I was recently approach by a luxury retailer who is interested in reproducing one of my chair designs, we are still is discussion stage - so nothing concrete yet !
GettingHome design recently featured some of my digital prints in a slide show on their website.
